On 25th april 2002, an informal meeting of pediatricians of Ganjam District was convened by Dr. D.J.J Swamy at his residence at Berhampur. 18 pediatricians attended the meeting and had shown keen interest to create a local branch of Indian Academy of Pediatrics. The members who had attended the meeting, unanimously elected Dr. Padmalochan Behera as president, Dr. D.J.J. Swamy as honorary secretary and Dr. Narendra Behera as Treasurer. Prof. Rabi Kumar Satapathy, Prof. P. Suvarna Devi and Prof. Ajit Kumar kar were requested to be the advisors of our local branch on 14th may 2002. The inaugural function of IAP Ganjam District Branch was held at Hotel Moti, Brahmapur. Dr. Padmalochan Behere was formally installed as the first president of the local branch. On that day 22 pediatricians enrolled themselves as members of Indian Academy of Pediatrics, GanjamDistrict Branch. The untiring effort of all pediatricians of Ganjam District finally made it possible to form our Ganjam District Branch of IAP. Our branch has dedicated to organise itself as a platform for intellectual and ideological exchange. Our members meet every month for scientific discussion and continuing medical education. We resolved to work together to extend the principles, policies and morals of IAP for the betterment of children of our country. Our branch had also resolved to celebrate different “Days” and “Weeks” & “Months” (ORS Day & week, World Breastfeeding Week, Teenage Day, Newborn Care Week, Child Health Care Week etc) with a lot of zeal and commitment.

With sincerity of all the members, we look forward for a glorious future.
